This looks gorgeous! Excuse me being a bit dense, I’m a little confused by the sizes. Is size 3 for a child aged approximately 18mths to 2 years? Also, are the finished garment sizes above with 22 inches for bust and waist – is that the circumference or the width laid flat?
I’d love to make this dress for my neice’s birthday but I’m not sure about the sizing so any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

Size 3 is geared around a 3 year old child. I gave the finished garment sizes for bust and waist (circumference) in case you have a larger 2 year old or a small 4 year old. Because children are little “boxes” the most important measurement is their bust…most likely their waist will be the same or slightly smaller. I recommend having an 1″ to 1 1/2″ garment ease but some people may prefer a looser fit so that the garment will last for a couple of years. There is a tie so even if the bodice is a bit loose you can cinch it in a bit.
So what you would need to do is to measure your child’s bust. This dress will work for bust sizes between 20″-21.” Also measure your child from her shoulder to her waist. This measurement shows you where the waist seam will hit.
Toddlers have a slightly different pudgier body so even if the bust area would work for them the waist would be much lower on their bodies. As things progress I will add some toddler sizes as well. I hope this was helpful and please ask more questions if it wasn’t!
